           Robert had been in some type of farming business since the age of 12.  Robert and Vera wanted to make
    the family farm prosper and flourish in the hope that one day their children: Shelly, Lori and Scott would
    want to continue the family tradition.  They incorporated a “Pick-Your-Own” produce business which grew to
    about 40 acres, but due to the changing times, they downsized the produce and concentrated on expanding the
    soil and sand industry.

            About this same time, they stumbled upon an outstanding landmark for the farm. People have come to
    know him as “The Giant Man,” “The Jolly Green Giant,” and even “Paul Bunyan.”

            Several years ago, they began looking for a better location to produce sand that would be of a consistent
    specification. Finally in 1998, they located a farm in Spout Springs, NC that would allow them to do just
    that.  They have set up their own mining operation there, where they  mine, process blend and transport their
    sand for their customers.  By adding this farm to their business, they are capable of producing Greensmix
    with Canadian Spaghnum Peat or California style straight greens, as well as, custom blended materials
    including USGA Specification Golf Course Sand according the individual  need of each client.  To ensure
    that they are producing the mix consistency with what the clients want, they test their products at an in-
    house lab and then they send the mixture to a USGA approved outside lab for further analysis to ensure
    customer satisfaction and superior material quality.

            Fortunately, their family business has continued to grow with the help of their children, their employees
    and most importantly their clients.  They are continually adding new products and mixes to their selection
    and with the help of family, current customers and future customers, they hope to continue to provide high
    quality products at the most competitive prices while providing the highest standard in customer service.

            In January of 2007, the business moved to a new location, near the intersection of 540 and US 1, off of
    Gresham Lake Road.  You will see that the well known landmark has moved with them.  Some people refer to
    him as “The Giant Man,” “The Jolly Green Giant,” or “Paul Bunyan.”  Whatever you choose to call him, he
    too is a member of the family.  They have given him a new set of clothes and now he welcomes you to the new
    location at 3729 Overlook Road.
